If you’re like many people, chances are you have a key hidden somewhere in case of an emergency. We’ve covered a few dos and don’ts already, here, here, here, and here. So while you think you might be covered, it’s a good thing to check on your secret hiding spot, just to make sure it’s still good to go in case you need it.
If you have it hidden outdoors, you’re going to want to make sure that it hasn’t been damaged with the elements. A quick inspection can assure there is no rust, which can gunk up a lock or potentially break the key.
You also might want to consider re-hiding it. If you’ve needed it maybe once in the past, simply putting it back in its spot should be ok. But if you’ve needed it a few times, the chances of revealing your hiding place go higher and higher with each use. By finding a new and secure spot, you’re now protected by both a lockout AND someone who might know where the key is.
Lastly, can’t find your key? You might want to consider a reykey of your home. Sure you might’ve just misplaced it, but that isn’t a guarantee. If you don’t know where every copy of that key is, that means there’s a chance someone else has it.So if you need a hand with your locksmithing needs, call us!
